Morning Adventure

The boys woke me up around 6:30 AM this morning. A quick jaunt outside and then breakfast for them. I climbed back into bed with a cup of coffee and this here laptop to check email and the such.Around 7:45 AM, they started dancing around. I knew that meant it was time to go o-u-t-s-i-d-e again. I decided a long walk was overdue and we set out.Jump to about 8:20 AM. We’re walking back into our neighborhood and I see our neighbor and her two little dogs ahead. Jake in intrigued by her youngest and I was glad he was going to get to say good morning.I prod the boys along and when I look up, I see a young deer (at least a six point buck) slowly trotting through the ‘hood. I froze. The dogs froze. The dogs bolted. I dug in my heels. I lost and ended up laying in the street. The boys gleefully chased that deer out of my sight.

I picked myself up and ran after them, knowing full well that they were long gone. As I made my way to my car, I passed a woman and her son and let them know what just happened. I got in the car and started cruising the ‘hood. I came up upon my neighbor talking to another nice lady about what happened and let them know that I was going out to look for J & L. Imagine my surprise when I pull up at the light at the exit of the ‘hood and I see a nice man walking my two monsters and his own dog toward my car.

I jumped out (after putting the car in park. That would have been bad) and thanked him profusely. He said he had run into a nice lady and her son and she had told him what happened. He said that they had been “good boys.”The boys got in the car. I cruised back over to the neighbor and lady to let them know that all was okay. We got home and this is the picture I was able to take soon after arrival. All of us are in bed again and they are napping as we speak.

They drive me nuts sometimes, but I love them. I think they are so proud of themselves for their little adventure.(I presume the deer is fine. No blood in their mouths and the fact that they were found so soon after running off leads me to believe that the deer easily outran them)

Actually, it is adventures like that which prohibited me from ever walking to the two Danes together…they really seemed to egg each other on. But, you are in a tough situation with no backyard. I’m GLAD you got them back and no one was injured (deer included!). I’m sure your heartrate was through the roof!!
