Lunch, originally uploaded by sillydoggies.
Here is a picture of my lunch. Mustard greens (from CSA) sauteed in oil with lemongrass, tofu, red pepper flakes, tofu, and sugar snap peas. Peanuts added before serving.
I’m such a nerd.
I saw the aforementioned duo at the Birchmere on Sunday, June 21 in their show “Dial P for Pasties.” Corporatemonkey and I had a ball and are eagerly looking forward to their return to the DC-metro area. I tried to explain the show to hubby on Thursday morning, but failed miserably. It was campy, witty, and so much fun.
Seeing the show only confirmed that I want to take an intro to burlesque class. The performers were completely comfortable in their own skin regardless of their size and shape. I think it is much healthier to appreciate and celebrate the differences in our bodies instead of striving toward unattainable perfection. I’m all for staying healthy, but life is too short to starve oneself or spend hours upon hours in the gym every day. Isn’t the quote “in all things moderation?” I think “in most things moderation” is better. No need to moderate having fun.
Every Wednesday I pick up my CSA shipment at a church up the road from my house. I arrived home from work around 5:15 PM, walked/fed the dogs, and then changed out of my work clothes. It was about 5:40 PM and I had until 6:30 to get my veggies. The conversation in my head sounded like this …
Lazy self: You don’t have enough time to bike over. Take the car and swing by the pet food store for more food for the boys.
Motivated self: TAKE THE BIKE!! It’s not that far and you can count it as your healthy thing for the day.
Lazy: You know you don’t want to get hot and sweaty. Besides, you’re really uncomfortable with the idea of biking on the big, scary roads
Motivated: You’d get hot and sweaty if you went for a run tonight. What’s the difference?
Lazy: CAR!!!!!!!!
Motivated: BIKE!!!!!!!!
(end scene)
I chose to bike. I had fun. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
