An Exercise in Futility….

I love summer. Why?

Bare feet

Beaches

Bike rides

Cold beer in glass bottles

Cool breezes

Fresh organic (& locally grown) produce

Ice cream

Minimal clothing

Outdoor concerts

Pool time

Popsicles

Running through the sprinklers

Trashy paperback books

I stopped by the local bike shop on my way to CSA pickup on Wednesday. I walked in and instantly felt out of place.

High performance bikes + poured concrete floors + incredibly knowledgeable staff = me feeling like a dumbass

Thank goodness I kept walking through the store. A nice salesperson asked if I needed assistance. Here is a recreation of our dialogue:

Me: I bought a secondhand cruiser a few weeks ago and want to get a basket. Do you have any recommendations?

Salesperson (SP): Rattan. (While gesturing toward the rack we’re standing in front of)

Me: Pardon?

SP: Rattan. (As he picks it up off the display)

Me: Ugh. Oh. Okay.

(End scene)

I guess that wasn’t as funny written out as it was in person. We discussed how to mount the basket and I asked about bringing Betty in for a check-up. I left satisfied to get my veggies. Good times.
