…to a friend’s house for dinner. She lives a couple of blocks from me and I was walking across a major road (at the crosswalk) toward her home. Suddenly, I heard a crash and looked up to see that a car that had been trying to make a U-turn had misjudged the turn and had hit a light pole.

Thank goodness the driver wasn’t going to fast. The car was also a late model something. Instead of getting out to see what the damage was, the driver backed the car up, corrected the steering wheel and went on its merry way. As for the light pole, I didn’t see any damage from my location, but I’ll take a look at it when I walk the dogs tomorrow.

Brown dog (aka Jake) seems like a completely different animal compared to this time last year. Those of you that know me in the real world have heard my stories and maybe even met him. To let husband sleep, I got up with the boys at 6 AM this morning and took them on a (short) walk. We came home, I fed them, and then they walked back and forth between me (on the couch) and husband (in the bed). Jake came to me to get a little bit of attention before going to get in bed (his favorite place in the house). I scratched his ears, his rump, and neck. He buried his head in my lap and leaned up against me. When he pulled away, I thought “He is so wonderful! I love that dog.” From here, he got in bed with husband.

Because a quiet Jake sometimes means he’s doing something he’s not supposed to do, I poked my head in the bedroom to check his status. He was laying on the floor and seemed fine. I walked back to the couch and sat down to enjoy my coffee.

A few minutes later, Jake trotted into the living room with one of my shoes in his mouth. He had already eaten part of the strap and wanted to show me what he had found. He wasn’t so cute anymore. I can’t get too upset because I’m the one that left my shoes out and we know he likes my shoes the best.

With husband going out of town this week, the boys and I are going to have fun. My first goal of the day is to clean house and put away all of my stuff. Thanks Jake!

Almost perfect Saturday morning

As I sit here my cup of coffee (while still in bed), with both dogs (the brown one using my leg as a pillow), listening to iTunes (specifically Bob Dylan), I feel like my life is perfect for this brief moment. Husband is having brunch with friends and I’ve only been awake for about an hour. We have a solid list of things to do today, but none of them are absolutely urgent.

I was awakened to husband yelling at Jake Jake(aka Brown Dog, Troublemaker, Jakers, etc.) for eating his Birks. Mind you, these are the new Birks that arrived this week. Jake ate the old Birks a week or two ago. Husband had worn them this morning for the first time to walk the dogs. He took them off and hopped in the shower. When he got out, Jake had already destroyed one shoe. Man, was he pissed!! It’s been a long time since husband has been that mad and both dogs were freaked. Lucky crawled back in bed with me and was hiding his head. We think it is the first time (in our house) that Jake has realized that he had done something wrong. Before he left for brunch, husband reassured Lucky and made nice with Jake.

LuckyThe rest of the weekend should be uneventful.
