Leaves on cobbles

Leaves on cobbles, originally uploaded by straaddreamer.

A very wise man (his name was Gary) once pointed out to me that it is okay for one to slow down a bit this time of year. To pay attention to the weather and temperature change. To appreciate everything going on around me. To reflect on the gifts I have been given.

He’s right. But I just call it being lazy.

With everything going on in the financial markets, it would be easy to get worked up about it. After all, I used to work in the investment world and I currently have a 401k invested in large cap domestic and global mutual funds. My current boss gives me an hourly update on the market at work everyday. I’ll admit to a little bit of nausea over the last week, but it’s because I’m old enough to understand the implications and how this filters down to Joe Sixpack down the street. At the end of the day, I have to stay optimistic. Life is too fleeting to be doom and gloom all of the time. Husband and I have good jobs, wonderful friends, supportive families, and a dog that thinks the sun rises and sets on our command.

Our second spinning class is tonight. Beginning Wheel. I vacillate between really really really wanting a spinning wheel and then not because we don’t have the space. Tonight’s class and the one in two weeks won’t help that. Even so, I’ve been impressed with the amount of yarn I’ve spun with the drop spindle over the last week.

Cascade Cougar spindle

I volunteered on Ravelry to help Knit-A-Gogo by providing a spinning on a drop spindle demo today at Art on the Avenue. I spun for two hours, got slightly sunburned, and had a great time. My friend, DJ, lives just up the street and he kept me company for about 45 minutes before he met up with a few friends. When we finished at 1:00 PM, I met up with him and the friends for lunch. We had crabcake sandwiches (YUMMY) while sitting on the curb outside our favorite bar. This lovely dog (all 102 pounds of him) was sitting next to us and even came over to say hi. He was beautiful.

We walked back up the avenue where husband picked me up. I came home and took a nap. I was tired.

Calavera

Calavera, originally uploaded by toastforbrekkie.

While sitting here a minute ago taking a slug of coffee, Lucky got up on the couch and made sure to jostle my arm. The arm attached to the hand that was holding the coffee mug. The mug clashed with my teeth. It was a stalemate, but uncomfortable as my front tooth is [still] smarting from eating concrete back in May. Anywho…

_______________

The spinning class last night was good. A little repetitive for me as I’ve been using a drop spindle since May, but it was nice to hear formal instructions on spindling. My classmates learning experiences helped me to better troubleshoot some of the problems I’ve encountered as well. Tomorrow I’m demonstrating spinning with a spindle at Arts on the Avenue and am sure I’ll get to use some of my new-found knowledge.
