Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park,Orlando, Florida, USA

There’s nothing like walking around a futuristic theme park at dusk on a Wednesday with a beer in my hand. That’s the sign of a true vacation.

I’m at MCO right now waiting to board the plane to head back to DCA. I’m ready to go home. My aunt and I had a wonderful time and I’m so glad she invited me to join her. I bought myself a watch with my birthday money from Mom & Dad. I also recommend staying on property to anyone who visits the huge corporate theme parks in Orlando. So worth it. We stayed at the one with the wild animals. Too cool. There’s very few things like waking up to giraffes standing outside your balcony.

I start the new job on Monday (I’ll write another post about this sometime over the weekend) and tomorrow is my wedding anniversary. It will be a quiet weekend, but I’m looking forward to jumping back into the working world.

On Friday, September 29, we headed to Mobile. Not a whole lot to say about our time in Mobile, but I’ll give it a shot (in chronological order)….

Went to Harley store in Biloxi. Got a shirt for me, Dad, and his friend.
It was nice to see the ‘rents and aunt & uncle. Trips with them are fun.
The wedding was sweet. Andy and Cathy looked so happy.
The breakfast part of the bed and breakfast was odd.
Went to other hotel to see rest of family.
Went to Harley store in Biloxi. Got a shirt for me and a collar for Lucky. We came really close to buying two bikes. REALLY CLOSE.
Showered and met the other four for lunch.
Tried to fill half a day with visiting downtown historic Mobile.
Couldn’t do it.
Dinner at place out on the causeway. It was excellent.
Watched the first half of the UGA game at the penthouse bar at the hotel a block up from ours.
Went back to hotel. Went to sleep.
Breakfast on Sunday at same place we had lunch on Saturday. It’s the only place open that early in the morning in downtown. So sad.
Saw beautiful, green TR6. Husband was happy.
Went back to hotel, packed up, hung out with family in hotel room.
Checked out, drove back to NO, returned rental car.
Hung out in airport. Ate hot dogs for lunch.
Flew home.
Monday: Picked up the dogs and went to the grocery store. Did laundry and prepped for our return to reality.

We decided that we need to take vacations more often. We don’t need to go all out like we did for this one, but we definitely need to get away more often. In the time since, we’ve laughed so much and have been so relaxed.

Because of our late evening at the HoB, we didn’t leave our hotel until about 11:30. Went somewhere for brunch/lunch. Spent the afternoon at a coffee shop drinking lambic and coffee. Knitting (me) and reading (husband). Very nice. Hit a few shops that sell clothing I haven’t found in DC yet. I bought a kick-ass David Bowie shirt and a shirt with a women’s face that morphs into a skull. Husband bought some very cool shirts too, but I’ll let him describe them on his blog if he wants to.

Thursday was a really laid back day until the bourbon tasting. If you see me in person, ask me about it. I’m not going to go into lots of detail here. Let’s just say it was amazing and we met the coolest people ever. They “adopted” us for the evening and took us out to dinner and then to a couple of bars. As New Orleans natives, they were frank and honest about the reality of living there the past year and they treated us like we had known them for years. We had a blast and it really made our trip special. We finally made it back to our hotel at about 2 AM. Such a wonderful day.

If you want to make me super happy, give me a bottle of Blanton or Woodford Reserve as a present. I’ll be your friend for life.
